Agrifood Technology is now offering antibiotic testing in feed samples.
The test includes Monensin, Narasin and Nicarbazin.
These are common anticoccidial drug residues used in animal feed to control coccidiosis in poultry and growth promoter in cattle.
Monensin and Narasin are common ionophores that disrupts the parasite's ion balance by allowing excessive sodium influx, leading to cell death and is considered effective against a wide range of Eimeria species (found in feed samples). Nicarbazin is a non-ionophore anticoccidial that works by inhibiting the parasite's metabolism.
Testing for these antibiotics in feed and pelleted samples is critical to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements and to avoid any potential harmful side effects.
