The Department of Agriculture and Agrifood held a workshop on 'Potential Contaminant in Stockfeed', which took place yesterday at the Rimba Horticulture Business Centre, Gadong, Brunei.

The guest of honour was Abdul Latif bin Sani, Acting Assistant Director and Head of the Division of Livestock Industry, Department of Agriculture and Agrifood.

Also present were unit heads of livestock industries, senior officers, officers and staff of the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood. A presentation was delivered by the Manager of Laboratory Agrifood Technology, Victoria, Australia, Doreen Fernandez (B Sc) and Karen Jackson. Dr Steve Sutherland, a consultant from AG West International, was the moderator of the workshop.

About 20 participants from the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood attended the workshop.

The workshop was a continuation of the department's National Development Plan (NDP) project - 'Study of The Nutritional Status of Animal and Livestock Feeds in Brunei Darussalam'.

Among the objectives of this project are to assess food resources for livestock other than fodder grass in Brunei and to assess the nutritional content of the forages.

In addition to evaluating forage resources, the project will also help the department in developing animal feed standards for the implementation of livestock monitoring and enforcement.
